On Saturday 27th May, British Airways suffered a massive IT failure causing huge disruption to holiday makers over the bank holiday weekend. At least 75,000 passengers were affected, with hundreds of flights being delayed or cancelled.
The incident caused by a “power surge” is set to cost BA around £100m in compensation costs alone, as well as the damage to their brand. It has also been reported that the shares in BA’s parent company, International Airlines Group, have fallen.
This highlights the importance of having an effective business continuity plan, with the right critical power solutions in place to prevent this type of incident from ever happening. However, it’s not enough to have these solutions in place, they must be maintained and tested on a regular basis to ensure your business is continually protected.
