Bypass Switches

Bypass Switches

A UPS often has its own internal bypass which allows for engineers to carry out most maintenance operations on the UPS without interruption to the critical load. There are times however where the internal maintenance bypass is not sufficient to carry out this work safely, such as when working on the electrical supply connections / terminations or should the UPS need to be removed from the system to either test or replace.

Bypass Switches

An External Maintenance Bypass Switch (EMBS) allows all maintenance operations on the equipment to be carried out safely and correctly, without the need to fully power down the critical load. Having an EMBS installed, avoids unnecessary out of hour work and reduces impact and inconvenience to your business.

There are many types of bypass available depending on your supply, power requirement, level of redundancy (i.e. parallel UPS N+1) or level of protection etc.

P & I have many standard models of EMBS to fit most applications but where there is a specific requirement we can design and build your EMBS to meet your exact specifications. Please contact our sales team to discuss your needs.
