P & I take part in Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day

save-the-children-christmas-jumper-dayOn Friday 16th December, the P & I team took part in the Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day. Everyone came dressed in their most festive jumpers with some of us decorating our own knitwear (see our pictures below!).

Every year, Save the Children hold their annual Christmas Jumper Day to raise money to save children’s lives and we were more than happy to get involved!

Laura and Nikki kindly made some Christmas themed cakes, cookies and gingerbread men to raise some extra money on the day. To continue the Christmas spirit and in an attempt to raise further funds, we held a guess the amount of chocolates in the jar during yesterday’s Secret Santa. James was very happy to win the jar of chocolates and kindly shared them with the whole office. In total, we managed to raise £105.20 from the donations made for wearing our jumpers, the bake sale and the guess the amount of chocolates.

Save the Children is an international charity promoting children’s rights and providing relief and support to children in developing countries across the world. The aim of the charity is to improve children’s lives through better health care and education, as well as providing emergency aid during natural disasters, wars and other conflicts.

The money we have raised will go towards providing essentials like food, education and healthcare to millions of children around the world. We are passionate about raising money for charities so keep an eye out on our website for upcoming charity fundraisers we will be involved in.

Paul Benfield, Managing Director of P & I commented:

“We were happy to participate in the Christmas Jumper Day campaign for Save the Children UK this year and between us we managed to raise £105.20. I would like to thank all of our staff who participated and helped raise essential funds for this important cause.”

To find out more about the charity, visit the Save the Children website.

Below we have added all of the pictures we took throughout the day:

P & I return to the Uganda Virus Research Institute

Andy in UgandaOn Thursday 2nd December, P & I engineers Andy Taylor and Gary Chrismas flew out to Entebbe in Uganda, just north of Lake Victoria.

This is Andy and Gary’s second trip to Uganda, having been there two years ago for an initial assessment. On our original trip, we were tasked by the Medical Research Council UK (MRCUK) to assess the electrical infrastructure at a number of their sites in Uganda. Following our assessment, the MRCUK purchased a generator and electrical switchgear to accompany two of their existing FG Wilson generators at the MRC/UVRI Uganda Research Unit on AIDS in Entebbe. The design of the equipment and their manufacturers were taken into account so that local support could be given in the future.

The new generator was delivered on site at the research unit in November 2014 and a local Ugandan company completed the basic mechanical installation. Andy and Gary have now returned to undertake a series of works including completing final cable connections and upgrading the FG Wilson generator control panels. Commissioning will involve synchronising tests between each set using a load bank and final tests supporting the site load.

The MRC/UVRI Uganda Research Unit on AIDS is an internationally recognised centre of excellence for research on HIV infection and related diseases. With its headquarters in Entebbe, it is vital that that the site has a critical power solution with the research unit consisting of research clinics, laboratories, administrative offices, technical and infrastructural support services, plus much more.

This is just one of many overseas projects that P & I have in the pipeline. Keep an eye on our website for more information about upcoming projects.

P & I welcome their newest team members

Laura Martin & Ross Grant - P & IWe would like to welcome both Ross Grant and Laura Martin to the P & I team.

Ross joined our sales team at the beginning of October as Business Development Sales Executive. Having worked in the motor industry for 15 years, Ross has a wealth of sales knowledge to bring to the company.

Ross commented:

“Having worked in the motor industry for over a decade, I decided it was time for a change of industry. I felt that I had learnt everything there was in the motor industry and needed a new challenge. I will be responsible for identifying and implementing new business opportunities.”

With P & I being a family run business it seemed only fitting that Ross joined the team, being the son-in-law of Managing Director, Paul Benfield.

Due to P & I’s continuous growth and their plans for the next 3 years, it was decided that the marketing aspect of the business needed to be enhanced. Therefore, in November this year, Laura joined us as Marketing Manager. She will be responsible for all aspects of marketing including developing the marketing strategy in line with the company’s overall objectives.

Laura commented:

“I am delighted to have joined the P & I team. They have a clear vision of where they want to be and I am looking forward to the challenge ahead in helping them get there.”

From everyone here at P & I, we would like welcome them both to the team.

If you are interested in joining the P & I team, please visit our vacancies page for more information.
